Caesaroni (Caesar Pepperoni Pizza Sandwich)

The combination of a pepperoni pizza and a caesar salad in sandwich form!

ingredients
  • 1 pound loaf bread (such as ciabatta), cut in half (top and bottom) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (link) (or marinara sauce (link))
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 ounces pepperoni, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
  • 4 cups romaine lettuce, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup croutons, coarsely crushed
  • 1/4 cup caesar dressing (link)
directions
  1. Spread the pizza sauce over the inside of the top and bottom of the bread, sprinkle the cheese on top of both sides, place the pepperoni on one side followed by the parmesan cheese.
  2. Bake in a preheated 450F/230C oven until the cheese has melted, about 5-10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, mix the lettuce, croutons and dressing.
  4. When the cheese has melted, remove the loaf from the oven, place the lettuce over the top of the bottom slice of bread, top with the top, slice and enjoy!

Option: Use 4 buns instead of 1 large loaf.
