Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwiches

Chicken cheese steak sandwiches with onions, peppers and plenty of melted provolone cheese!

ingredients
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons oil (or mayonnaise)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce (optional) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 4 slices provolone
  • 4 hoagies/buns/rolls, cut in half (optionally toasted) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
directions
  1. Marinate the chicken in the mixture of the oil, garlic powder, oregano, cayenne, salt, and pepper for 20 minutes to overnight.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the onions and peppers and cook until tender and lightly caramelized, about 5 minutes, before setting aside.
  3. Add the chicken and cook, about 5-8 minutes, mix in the soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, mix and cook for a minute.
  4. Mix in the onions and pepper, place the cheese on top and let it melt, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Divide the chicken cheesesteak mixture between the buns and enjoy!

Option: Add 4 ounces mushrooms, sliced.
Option: Add (or replace teh provolone with) whiz!
